Yet more Nottingham council waste designed for ethnic minorities

FAMILIES in Nottingham can apply for up to £500 worth of computer equipment to be able to learn at home.

The Home Access Scheme, launched earlier this year, has so far given free computer access to over 2,000 families.

There are still around 10,000 computer-and-internet packages available.

Eligible families are those with children in school years three to nine who attend state maintained schools on a full-time basis.

The children must also either be eligible for free school meals or in families with low incomes or on benefits.

Councillor David Mellen, Nottingham City Council's portfolio holder for children and families, said: "Providing access to technology at home can positively help children's education and raise education standards as it encourages pupils and their families to become computer literate and get the computer skills that are in general use today."
