Introduction to Ashfield
Ashfield is a local government district formed on the 1st of April 1974. Settlements within the district include Annesley, Annesley Woodhouse, Felley, Hucknall, Huthwaite, Jacksdale, Kirby in Ashfield, Selston, Stanton Hill, Sutton in Ashfield, Teversal and Underwood
The estimated population of Ashfield is around 116,000. Historically the region was regarded as a coal mining region. Thus with the disappearance of mining industry the region suffers the common problems that blight similar areas around the country that have lost traditional industries. Namely lack of employment, low social mobility,benefits dependency and high crime and anti-social behaviour rates.
